Rapleaf Profiles and Information

Q.

Where did Rapleaf obtain the demographics and online communities information?

A.

Demographic and online communities information is collected from publicly available online sources such as blogs, newsgroups, social networks, message boards, forums, etc

Q.

Why are some online communities highlighted when I hover over the demographics area?

A.

Certain online communities are highlighted when hovering over demographic information in order for you to see the source of the information we display.

Knowing the source of the information allows you to go directly to that source and correct any inaccuracies or update your information.

Q.

What information does Rapleaf collect?

A.

Rapleaf automatically collects demographic information such as name, age, gender, location, occupation, where you worked, what university you went to, and your first known internet activity. We also automatically collect online communities and social networks that an email address is associated with.

Rapleaf collects user-generated feedback in the form of ratings, which directly affects your Rapleaf reputation score.

Q.

Why is the email address for a profile partially hidden?

A.

For privacy reasons, we elect to not display full email addresses on people. We however display the domain name of an email address. Click here for more information on our Email Domain Reputation.

Q.

Can I forward a profile to a particular friend?

A.

You may forward a searched profile to a friend by clicking on the ‘Send to a Friend’ link at the top right of the profile.

Q.

When I search certain email addresses, I get the following message: “Information for this person has been selected to be removed”. Why is information on this person removed?

A.

Information pertaining to the person you searched may be removed per that person’s request to be opted-out of Rapleaf. Rapleaf abides by any person’s request to opt-out. More information on Rapleaf’s opt-out practices in our Privacy Policy

Q.

When I search an email address, I get a message that Rapleaf is searching the email address and that the results will be displayed soon. Why isn’t the information readily accessible?

A.

While Rapleaf has a database of over 150 million email addresses, we may not have information on the email address you searched. When entering in an email address in Rapleaf’s search tool, if it is not in our database we collect and aggregate publicly available information on that particular person. Check back shortly after entering in an email (it may take up to an hour to retrieve information).

Reputation and Ratings

Q.

Can you explain Rapleaf’s rating system?

A.

Rapleaf tracks both quantitative and qualitative feedback given out. When giving a rating, select either “Positive,” “Neutral,” or “Negative.” Each rating has an associated point value with it.

Next, select if you’re a buyer, seller, swapper, or friend. Your association will dictate the type of rating/score:

You Are

Score That Is Affected

Color Scheme

Buyer

Rapleaf and Commerce Score

Green

Seller

Rapleaf and Commerce Score

Blue

Swapper

Rapleaf and Commerce Score

Orange

Friend

Rapleaf Score

Yellow

Then enter a comment to give a qualitative aspect to the rating. For example:

I sold Steve some rare coins. He came to my house to pick them up. He was on time, courteous (he took his shoes off to not muddy the carpet), and paid in cash (and he had the exact amount). Steve even gave me some tips about my other coins. I would do business with Steve again.

Once the rating is submitted, the person rated is notified via email and they are thus prompted to rate you back

Q.

What do the different Rapleaf scores represent?

A.

Rapleaf publishes three scores: Rapleaf Score, Rapleaf Commerce Score, and Positive Percentage.

Rapleaf Score: The “Rapleaf Score” is the main value used to represent a person’s reputation. It is calculated using data from ratings given about this person, ratings made by this person, and other online information, such as social networks.

Rapleaf Commerce Score: The “Rapleaf Commerce Score” is calculated by the number of buyer/seller positive ratings minus the number of buyer/seller negative ratings (and multiple ratings from the same person are not counted). This is not impacted by any personal ratings or external information.

Positive Percentage: “Positive Percentage” is the percentage of a person’s commerce feedback that is positive. It is calculated by dividing the number of positive commerce ratings by the sum of positive and negative commerce ratings. Neutral ratings are not included. Commerce ratings are ratings made by buyers, sellers, and swappers.

Q.

What is this ‘Email Domain Reputation’ feature?

A.

Domain reputation is just one component of a person’s overall reputation. Rapleaf may research the domain reputation of a given uncategorized domain and make any necessary changes. If you would like Rapleaf to review an uncategorized domain, please email: customer_service@rapleaf.com.

You may also add additional email addresses to your Rapleaf account in the meantime, with the chance of increasing your domain reputation.

Q.

How do I rate someone?

A.

You may rate someone by following these directions:

1.) Sign-in here: http://www.rapleaf.com/user_action

2.) Once signed in, enter the email address of the person you want to rate in the Rapleaf search box at the top of the page.

3.) You may leave a rating and comment, along with who you are (i.e. buyer, seller, swapper, or friend). This is the process regardless of whether or not this person you are attempting to rate has a Rapleaf account.

4.) Once you submit your rating and comment, the person you rated will receive an email notifying them that they were rated. This email will prompt that person to rate you back.

Q.

Can I rate a lot of friends at once?

A.

Yes. We’ve built an easy friend rater that takes just a few steps to rate a bunch of people at once. After signing in, click on the link that says “Rate Your Friends” or click on the following link: http://www.rapleaf.com/personal_info/friends

You can either manually add names and emails, or import your entire address book.

After importing contacts (either via an address book or manually), select the contacts you wish to rate at once and enter one personalized message that will be sent to all your friends. After you previewed what your friends will see, click ‘Rate My Friends.’

Q.

Can I rate a person more than once?

A.

You may rate someone more than once, however, each additional rating will not affect their Rapleaf Scores. Your additional comments will be visible to the person rated.

Q.

How can I go back and see the ratings I left someone?

A.

To go back and view the ratings you left for someone:

1.) Sign-in: http://www.rapleaf.com/user_action

2.) Once signed in, go to ‘Edit’ in the navigation at the top of your profile page and then click on ‘Ratings’ on the left hand side of the next page (or go here: http://www.rapleaf.com/PersonalInfo/manage_email)

Here you’ll be to see all the ratings you left for others, as well as stats and the ability to send reminders.

Q.

What do I do if it’s been a while since I rated someone and they still have not rated me back?

A.

If the person you rated did not yet rate you back, a ‘Send Reminder’ link will be displayed at the bottom of the rating you’ve given out. You will need to go back to the person’s Rapleaf profile and click on the ‘Send Reminder’ link (this will be displayed right below your rating). When clicking on the link we’ll send a short email to the person you’ve rated to remind them to respond and help build your reputation, as well as their own. Reminders can only be sent once every 15 days for each rating.

Q.

Can I change/edit the feedback I left for someone?

A.

Unfortunately you cannot edit or change the feedback you left for someone. Please make sure you enter honest and accurate information.

You may, however, provide additional feedback to the same person (this will add additional comments but will not affect the person’s Rapleaf scores).

Privacy

Q.

Why is there a character limit set when leaving feedback?

A.

The character limit is in place in order to promote quality feedback. Without a thorough account of a transaction, the feedback becomes less useful. This restriction is very minimal and is primarily meant to prevent feedback such as: “A+++++++”.

Other

Q.

I received many ratings from the same person but it did not impact my score. Why not?

A.

Our rating system is designed to prevent abuse, thus only one rating per person will affect another’s score.

You may receive multiple comments from the same users and see their additional comments. However, this will not affect your Rapleaf Scores.

Q.

How do I post my Rapleaf reputation on a third-party site (classified, social networking, commerce, blog, personal, etc.)?

A.

To promote your Rapleaf reputation on any site, please follow these directions:

1.) First sign-in: http://www.rapleaf.com/user_action

2.) In viewing your profile, click on the ‘Reputation’ tab and then click on ‘Share My Reputation’ under your badge. Alternatively you may go to ‘Edit’ in the navigation at the top of your profile page and then click on ‘Share’ on the left hand side of the next page (or go here: http://www.rapleaf.com/PersonalInfo/share_my_reputation)

3.) In the Share My Reputation page, click on the particular badge you’d like to share and copy the HTML code displayed on the green box. From there, paste the HTML code to the site that you wish to promote your Rapleaf reputation.

Q.

I have a Rapleaf score even though I never signed up for Rapleaf. How is that possible?

A.

On Rapleaf, anyone who is searched will be assigned a Rapleaf score, whether or not they are a Rapleaf member. As long as someone has your email address, you can be rated and provided with an online reputation that will help people trust you.

Rapleaf also grabs publicly available, reputation related data and factors this data into your Rapleaf Score.

Q.

Is it possible to transfer my Ebay ratings/reputation to Rapleaf??

A.

It is currently not possible to transfer Ebay ratings to Rapleaf. Please check back with us in the future to see if this is possible

Q.

How do I edit the ratings and feedback I received?

A.

Unfortunately you cannot edit the type of rating or feedback you received. You may however contact the person that rated you and request that they change the feedback.

Q.

What do I do if someone tried to ruin my reputation or has stated false/incorrect information about me?

A.
